Nominee statement

I have been working in Internet-related companies in the Asia Pacific since 2001. This provides me with an extensive regional exposure, which enables me to understand the different Internet environments in the Asia Pacific.

I have participated and contributed to the technical community and peering community in the Asia Pacific region in the past 20+ years. These include APRICOT, APNIC, APF, KPF, Peering Asia, APrIGF, ISOC HK, ICANN, IETF, HKNOG, SGNOG, MyNOG, IDNOG, TWNOG, PhNOG, VNIX-NOG etc.

With the involvement in the Internet communities, I could understand the wants of the communities, and I will continue to listen and help gather the inputs to APNIC to enhance the services to fit the members' benefit.

Being one of the steering group members of HKNOG, the committee of Peering Asia, and the multi-stakeholder group member of TWNOG, I have been actively promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing to the local Internet communities. I believe my strong technical networking background would contribute to a better policy for the Internet communities in the Asia Pacific.

During my last 10 years as APNIC EC, I’ve more understanding of APNIC as an organization and APNIC members’ expectations.

Nominated by

Organization:
Hong Kong Broadband Network Limited
Reason for nomination

Here are the primary reasons why he is a standout candidate:

Deep Technical Expertise and Proven Leadership - Kams has a long-standing history in the networking community, particularly through his leadership roles at Akamai Technologies and his extensive involvement with HKAITP (Hong Kong Association of Interactive Technology Professionals). He understands the underlying plumbing of the Internet—from BGP routing to CDN infrastructure—ensuring that EC decisions are grounded in technical reality.

Commitment to Open Governance - He is a staunch advocate for the bottom-up, multi-stakeholder model. In an era where Internet governance faces increasing pressure from top-down regulatory bodies, Kams’s track record suggests he will fight to keep APNIC transparent, inclusive, and community-driven.

Regional Representation and Connectivity - Having been deeply involved in the development of Internet Exchanges (IXPs) and peering ecosystems across Asia, Kams understands the unique challenges faced by both emerging and mature markets in the region. He bridge the gap between technical needs and policy requirements.
