Nominee statement
Since 1996, I have been a dedicated contributor to the global Internet community, serving in various leadership and technical roles. Currently, I serve as the Chief Information Officer and Deputy Managing Director of Fiber@Home Limited, where I oversee one of Bangladesh’s largest telecommunications transmission networks and Internet Gateways.
Beyond my executive role, I am a frequent speaker and participant in several Network Operators Groups (NOGs), including SANOG, BDNOG, BTNOG, NPNOG, MyNOG, and AusNOG. My leadership experience also includes a 10-year tenure as an office bearer for the ISP Association of Bangladesh, where I engaged with government stakeholders on critical Internet policy development.
My commitment to Internet Governance is reflected in my work as a MAG member of the UN IGF and my ongoing contributions to IGF events. Having served as an APNIC EC Member for the past six years, I have gained a deep understanding of the unique challenges facing local entrepreneurs, academia, and engineers across our diverse region. I am eager to leverage this experience to continue serving the APNIC community and driving meaningful progress in the years ahead.

Reason for nomination
I am honored to nominate Sumon Ahmed Sabir for re-election to the APNIC Executive Council. Over his past terms, he has proven to be an essential part of the council, combining deep technical expertise with mature, executive-level judgment.
His case for re-election is built on a clear record of contributions:
Proven Strategic and Technical Leadership: As both Chief Information Officer and Deputy Managing Director of Fiber@Home, Sumon manages critical national infrastructure daily. This unique role of connecting high-level business strategy with complex network operations allows him to bring a practical, grounded perspective to the EC. He consistently helps steer decisions toward what operators actually need on the ground.
Institutional Stability and Governance: Throughout his tenure on the EC, Sumon has provided thoughtful and collaborative leadership. His background as a former Chair of the APNIC Policy SIG and a member of the UN IGF’s MAG gives him valuable institutional memory and policy insight exactly what APNIC needs to navigate today’s complex global regulatory environment.
Unwavering Commitment to the Community: Sumon has long been a cornerstone of our regional community. Through his ongoing leadership in SANOG, bdNOG, and many other forums, he reliably bridges the gap between technical communities and policymakers. This work helps create an environment where the Internet can grow in a secure, inclusive way.
Deep Technical Credibility: Beyond policy, Sumon is a widely respected engineer with extensive expertise in core technologies like BGP, MPLS, and DWDM. He’s also actively involved in modernizing infrastructure for the cloud era, including Data Center, Cloud, and AI technologies. His continued advocacy for IPv6 and RPKI deployment shows he remains a hands-on technical leader, committed to the security and evolution of the Internet’s foundation.
Personal Integrity & Approachability: Perhaps most importantly, Sumon is widely admired for his humility and soft-spoken nature. He is an approachable leader who consistently goes out of his way to assist others, whether mentoring young engineers or helping peers navigate challenges. This willingness to help has earned him deep trust and respect across the entire community.
Re-electing Sumon means keeping a knowledgeable, experienced, and deeply respected voice on the Executive Council. His continued service will provide the APNIC community with both stability and strategic foresight in the years to come.
